RISE Schools Wellness Policy
At The RISE Grammar and Prep Schools, we are deeply concerned about the rising rate of childhood obesity in the United States. As part of our mission, we are dedicated to promoting wellness within and outside of the classrooms. With grades K through 8, our schools provide a safe and healthy environment, maintaining a campus that is free from tobacco, alcohol, and drugs. We foster a culture of caring, respect, and responsibility.
To address the various dimensions of health, we have implemented a planned and sequential curriculum at The RISE Grammar and Prep Schools. This curriculum encompasses the physical, mental, emotional, and social aspects of well-being and is aligned with Georgia’s Health and Physical Education frameworks, as well as our existing school policies. As part of our commitment to holistic health, our physical education department incorporates nutritional education standards into their curriculum.
Together, we strive to equip our students with the knowledge and skills needed to make healthy choices and lead balanced lives. At The RISE Grammar and Prep Schools, we are dedicated to creating a nurturing and supportive environment that empowers our students to prioritize their well-being.
Healthy Meals
At The RISE Grammar and Prep Schools, we prioritize cleanliness and appeal in our cafeteria. Microwaves are not allowed for safety reasons. Nutrition information and menus are readily available. We promote balanced meals with whole grains, protein, milk, fruit, and vegetables. Weekly reports ensure nutrient requirements are met. We support families with information on summer meal programs and accommodate dietary needs. Students have dedicated time for breakfast and lunch.
Competitive Foods and Beverages
At The RISE Grammar and Prep Schools, we have guidelines regarding the sale and serving of food to support our school food programs. Students are not allowed to organize food sales during school hours, but they can do so during designated events with healthier food options. We do not have vending machines or a school store, and teachers are encouraged to choose non-food options for parties and rewards. Drinking fountains and clear water bottles are available to promote hydration.
Physical Education
Our comprehensive physical education curriculum that promotes the holistic development of our students. Our program includes a wide range of age-appropriate activities aligned with educational standards and assessments. In addition to regular physical education classes, students can engage in various active learning experiences such as sports teams, clubs, the RISE Community Peace Garden, and elective classes. We believe in providing diverse opportunities for students to learn and thrive physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively.
